About Me

Racing 2012

Hi. I’m Lauren, a 28 year old originally from Cardiff and now living in London. I’m a journalism graduate, and fully qualified nutritional therapist (CNM dip). My passions are Veganism, running, and geeking out on nutrition.

I have been a Vegetarian for 12 years, and a Vegan for the last 6. I love to experiment with food and over the years I have developed a passion for cooking healthy Vegetarian and now Vegan food. I enjoy trying out new recipes as well as old favourites. Since changing my diet I have become so much more aware of my nutritional needs and the food I put into my body, especially as it helps me to run as much as I want and recover in time for the next workout.

I became Vegan in September 2010 after becoming aware of the horrors of the dairy industry. I have read so many different books and articles, that with the knowledge I now have it would be hard for me to ever go back to eating animal products. I feel good eating this way, and I feel good knowing I am doing my bit for the animals and the environment too. I know what foods make me feel great, fuel me through very long runs, and intense strength training sessions. Food that makes me feel amazing both inside and out: fruits, vegetables, legumes, some grains, nuts and seeds are my staples. People may think Veganism is restrictive, but in fact it’s quite the opposite, it has opened my world to a whole array of new foods, flavours and textures and I have never felt better!

Over the last 6 years I have developed a passion for running. I ran my first 10k in March 2010 and I was hooked from the start. I have now done a number of 10k’s, multiple half marathons, 6 marathons including Dublin, Manchester and Berlin, and three ultra marathons including Race to the Stones 100km. I love trail running and running long, it’s where my heart lies!

This blog will catalogue my adventures as a plant based runner as I look into trying out new things and pushing myself to take on new challenges.

Lauren

  1. You are so much fun Lauren! I love your blog! 😀

  2. Cute blog :)!
    Can’t wait to read more!!

  3. I love that you want to show the variety that a vegan diet can have- that is so necessary when promoting veganism and you do it very well (:
It is also great that among the loads of fad diets, you have found what works best for you!

  4. Reaaly enjoy reading your reviews -I’ll be doing the Longman 35miler in a few weeks time… the medal in your photo looks terrific so I will use as motivation when the going gets tough!

    • Thanks David. I did the 18 miler and although it wasn’t without it’s issues in terms of organisation it was a cracking race. I’ll possibly be doing the 10 miler as I got free entry after all the problems with the 18 miler last time round.
